Small text, accessibility and SEO
Use decorative Unicode with care. Keep important words readable, searchable and understandable to assistive technology.
Keep essential information in ordinary letters
Small characters and mathematical alphabets are different code points, not just a visual style. Assistive technology may announce their formal names, skip them or pronounce them unexpectedly. Behavior varies across screen readers and languages.
Do not style your keywords into different characters
A decorative version of a word is not necessarily equivalent to the ordinary word for search, find-in-page or text processing. Use plain, descriptive text for page titles, headings, links, navigation and the terms people need to find.
Use semantic formatting when you control the page
For a webpage, use CSS for size and actual sup or sub elements for meaningful raised or lowered notation. Pair decorative snippets with an ordinary-text version when meaning matters. Our converter labels controls in ordinary text and keeps the transformation optional.
