Small text vs. a small font
Learn how Unicode small text differs from font sizes, true small caps and superscript formatting.
Small Unicode text changes the characters
Converting “hello” to “ʰᵉˡˡᵒ” replaces the underlying letters. The smaller appearance travels with the copied characters, but its exact size still depends on the receiving font. It is not a font download.
A small font changes presentation
CSS font-size, an editor’s superscript button and a font’s real small-caps feature change how ordinary text is drawn. They can style a full alphabet without replacing each character. That is usually the right approach for websites and formal documents.
Choose for the destination
Use Unicode for a short, optional accent in a plain-text field that accepts it. Use real formatting for long passages, accessible content and precise typography. A text converter cannot promise a particular pixel size after pasting.
